SHARLEEN SPITERI entró en el negocio de la música con un exitazo a nivel europeo ("I don ´t want a lover", que curiosamente no es de lo mejor de su repertorio, para nada) con su grupo TEXAS. Podían haber sido un grupo de un sólo tema, sobre todo cuando su segundo y tercer disco vendieron de forma menguante (curiosamente, el que menos ventas ha tenido en su carrera, "Rick´s Road" es probablemente el mejor). TEXAS empezaron a escribir canciones más pop y blanditas... y tuvieron un éxito enorme. Empezaron a experimentar con hip-hop (abucheo) e incluso metieron temporalmente a un dj inútil en el grupo (abucheo, abucheo y abucheo!!) ...y siguieron vendiendo como rosquillas. Esperemos que frenen pronto su proceso de endulzamiento, y vuelvan al guitarreo de antaño, cosa difícil, para ser sincero. Por cierto, ya se han desecho del maldito dj de los huevos. Desde aquí le deseamos una larga estancia en el infierno, unas tremendas almorranas y una luxación en el escroto.

SHARLEEN SPITERI entered the music business with a European smash hit ("I don ´t want a lover", which by the way is not one of her best songs) with the band TEXAS. They could have been another one-hit wonders, specially after their second and third albums selling less and less (ironically, "Rick´s Road", the poorest selling of her entire carreer is probably the best one). TEXAS wrote more pop-oriented music and they got huge. They started experimenting with hip-hop (Boo!!) and even hired temporarily a dj (Boo!! Boo!! Boo!!) ...and kept selling like crazy. I hope they stop their "going soft" and return to the old loud guitars, which is something I don´t think will happen, to be honest. By the way, they got rid of the irritating dj. Hope he gets cannibal hemorrhoids.

Estos son dos setlists utilizados por TEXAS en dos de sus conciertos en Madrid. El primero es del show del 28 de Abril de `97 (en La Riviera), y el segundo, del 27 de Octubre de `03 en la sala Aqualung. Como curiosidad, añadir que en concierto del `97 añadieron una canción como bis final, no incluida en el setlist (si es que esto importa algo a alguien...). Se trataba de "You ´re all I need to get by"

These are two setlists used by TEXAS in two of their concerts in Madrid. The first one is from the April 28th `97 show (at La Riviera), and the second one from the October 27th `03 (at Aqualung). As a curiosity, just to mention that in the `97 show they added an extra song as a final encore that is not written on the setlist. That was Marvin Gaye ´s "You ´re all I need to get by" , in case somebody cares.

El 10 de Febrero del `97 TEXAS firmaron sus discos en una tienda de Madrid. Yo les llevé esta parodia de la portada del "Ricks Road" y, por el volumen de las carcajadas, entiendo que les gustó mucho. SHARLEEN lo firmó (y se quedó con una copia), pero no se entendía nada, (y es que hasta faltan letras...) así que la siguiente vez que estuve con ellos (el día siguiente) le pedí que me lo "tradujera". Pone (aunque no lo parezca) "your(e) gorgeous Stephen, Love Sharleen". Mira tú, qué majica. (Haz click en la foto para verla aumentada)

On Feb. 10th `97 TEXAS did a pubic autograph session in a store in Madrid. I took this "Ricks road" cover parody and, by the volume of their laughter, I assume they really liked it. SHARLEEN signed it (and kept a copy) but her writing was totally illegible (with even some letters missing). So the next time I was with them (the following day, actually) I asked her for the "translation". What it says is (believe it or not): "your(e) gorgeous Stephen, Love Sharleen". I love you too, Shar. Este es un enorme calendario promocional que venía ya enmarcado. Obviamente es de la época de "The Hush". La cara de colgao es a petición de mi esposa, aunque a veces también me sale a mi solito sin que nadie me lo pida. De fondo se ve mi cuarto-zulo-museo, aunque ahora está diferente. La foto de SHARLEEN en la portada de la revista GQ es, posiblemente, mi foto favorita de ella. Para los que no la conozcan, decir que la revista GQ está destinada al (cada vez menos numeroso) público heterosexual.. Ella me la firmó y ahora está enmarcada. The picture of SHARLEEN on the cover of the GQ magazine is, probably, my favorite ever. She signed to me and now is in a frame. GQ, for those who don´t know, is targeted to the ever-shrinking heterosexual reader market. (Click on the photo to enlarge)

Tan obsesionado estaba con la foto de la portada del GQ que decidí trabajar con ella para transformarla. Tras semanas y semanas con el Photoshop llegué a este diseño propio (si, es que soy muy lento). Pero todo el trabajo mereció la pena. El 27 de Octubre del `03 conseguí darle una copia personalmente a SHARLEEN antes de su concierto en Madrid. Lo bueno, lo orgasmático, vino cuando vi que SHARLEEN puso esta foto en el escenario, junto al setlist, (¿para que le inspirara?) y que al acabar el concierto un roadie lo recuperaba y se lo llevaba a su camerino (varios fans lo reclamaban y el roadie dijo que nones, que era de SHARLEEN).

So obsessed I became with the GQ picture that I decided to work on it to make it something different. After weeks and weeks using Photoshop I came to this original artwork.(yes, I´m pretty slow). But all the time spent on it was well worth it. On October 27th `03 I got to personally give SHARLEEN a copy before her concert in Madrid. The good, orgasmic part of the story came when SHARLEEN put this picture on the stage, by the setlist, and that at the end of the show a roadie picked it up to take it to her room again (some fans wanted to have it and the roadie told them that it belonged to SHARLEEN and SHARLEEN only)

Este cuadro tiene un poco de todo: El maxi-single en vinilo de "Thrill has gone" firmado por toda la banda, una copia de una foto junto a Sharleen firmada por ella, el libreto del cd "White on blonde" firmado por todo el grupo, y una postal de las que venían en el cd-single de "You owe it all to me" firmada por Sharleen. Si, la verdad es que Sharleen me ha firmado muchas cositas a lo largo de su carrera. Una prueba de su paciencia, preocupación, y cariño hacia la comunidad enferma. There you have a little bit of everything, put in a frame: The 12-inches vinyl of "Thrill has gone" signed by the entire band, a copy of a picture Sharleen and I had taken months before, signed by her; The "White on blonde" cd booklet signed by the entire band, plus one of the postcards that came with the "You owe it all to me" cd-single, signed by Sharleen.
